The College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology is seeking nominations and applications from qualified individuals for the position of Chair of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. The successful candidate will hold the William R.T. Oakes School Chair. The School is ranked 2 nd for undergraduate programs and 5 th for graduate programs by U.S. News and World Report, and is among the top aerospace engineering programs in the country. It has a student body of approximately 700 undergraduates, nearly 500 master’s and Ph.D. students, as well as 39 full-time faculty members. The School’s diverse faculty is actively engaged in research at the national and international level. Research program areas include: fluid dynamics, structures, controls, combustion, propulsion, dynamics, thermal systems, aircraft systems design and optimization, space systems, air transportation, and cognitive engineering.
Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate or equivalent experience, and national and international recognition in their specific discipline based on a proven record of excellence in academic and professional scholarly achievements. The successful candidate should have the strategic skills and vision to lead the School toward higher levels of excellence within a multi-disciplinary and high-technology environment; be able to establish a successful working relationship with federal, state and private funding agencies; work with the faculty and Georgia Tech administration to raise funds from private and public sources; and maintain a close relationship with alumni of the School. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and is responsible for all administrative, budgetary and personnel decisions within the School. The successful candidate will be expected to provide evidence of fiscal responsibility and exhibit excellent leadership and management abilities, particularly interpersonal, team-building, and effective communication skills.
