Prof. Timothy C. Lieuwen

Aerospace engineering professor Timothy C. Lieuwen has been elected as a Foreign Fellow to India's National Academy of Engineering (INAE).

Already a member of the U.S National Academy of Engineering, Lieuwen will be formally inducted into the INAE November 1. He has been also been invited to give a research presentation before the INAE during its annual convention, to be held in Jaipur, India, December 14-16.

Established in 1987, the INAE is a peer-based body comprised of distinguished engineers and technologists in India. The Academy seeks to promote engineering, technologies, and applications to find the best soluitions to problems of national importance. The INAE confers Fellowship on Indian and foreign nationals who have demonstrated eminence in their chosen area and achieved outstanding accomplishments in engineering and technology.

That fairly well describes Lieuwen, a Regent's Professor, who holds the AE School's David S. Lewis, Jr. Chair and is the director of Georgia Tech's Strategic Energy Institute. Lieuwen has authored or edited four combustion books, eight book chapters, 110 journal articles, and more than 200 other papers. He has five patents. He is a member of the National Petroleum Counsel and is editor-in-chief of an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics book series. He has served on the board of the ASME International Gas Turbine Institute, and is past chair of the Combustion, Fuels, and Emissions technical committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is also an associate editor of the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, and has served as associate editor for the AIAA Journal of Propulsion and Power, and Combustion Science and Technology.  Prof. Lieuwen is a Fellow of the ASME and AIAA, and has been a recipient of the AIAA Lawrence Sperry Award and the ASME Westinghouse Silver Medal.
