The Department of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at the University of Limerick in Ireland, has had ongoing student exchanges with the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and is now expanding the partnership. The AE School will begin a Semester Abroad Program for Senior AE students at the University of Limerick (UL) in Summer 2013.

Hasan Tawab was awarded the outstanding AE undergraduate Researcher Award at the Undergraduate Research Spring 2013 Symposium held at the Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom on April 11, 2013. Hasan's mentors are Prof John Paul Clarke and Prof. Amy Pritchett.

An AE-ME team won first place at the UROP Spring 2013 Symposium in the poster session, under the engineering category.  Team members and their faculty mentor are:

The GT BADGER is a single-pilot, highly maneuverable, intermeshing rotorcraft system specifically designed for the purpose of promoting a rotorcraft category in future red bull air races. The GT BADGER takes its name from the infamous honey badger, a fearless animal who despite its size and misleading figure, is described as the most fearless creature in the entire animal kingdom.

On Thursday, March 28, 2013, faculty and staff who are recognized as making a difference in students' lives at Tech - were honored at a luncheon hosted by CETL.

They were recipients of letters of appreciation through the "Thank a Teacher" program. The program, jointly sponsored by CETL and the Georgia Tech Student Ambassadors, aims to recognize dedication to teaching and to helping students learn.

On March 20, 2013, Susan Jackson, AE's  Assistant Director for Administrative Ops, was among a group of blood donors who were gathered for a very unusual meeting. Supermodel Niki Taylor was in a serious car accident in 2001. She needed more than 100 blood transfusions during her treatment, and it took more than 300 blood donors to provide the blood and blood products she needed to survive.

Lewis H. Jordan III, AE '67, was recently inducted into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. In addition to his deep Georgia roots and ardent support of alma mater Georgia Tech, Jordan helped elevate Georgia's significance in the aviation industry and create thousands of Georgia-based jobs as co-founder of ValuJet Airlines and its successor Air Tran Airways.

AE student Michael Hodgson is the 2013 winner of the Joe T. Laboon Award, given annually to the most outstanding co-op senior at Georgia Tech.
