May 22, 2013 was a great day for the AE School. Students, faculty and distinguished alumni received numerous awards at the American Helicopter Society (AHS) Annual Awards Event held in Phoenix, AZ.

May 16, 2013

The Georgia Tech Foundation, Inc. (GTF), an external organization responsible for management of the private gifts that provide critical financial support for Institute priorities, has named Al Trujillo as its next president and chief operating officer (COO).

Trujillo will assume leadership of the GTF on July 1. He currently serves as a trustee of GTF and formerly was chairman of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.

May 14, 2013

The 2013 William Robert Marshall Award was presented to Prashant Khare (on the right in the photo), Dongjun Ma, Xiaodong Chen and Vigor Yang for their paper, "Breakup and Dynamics of Liquid Droplets" in ILASS-Americas 24th Annual Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems, held in San Antonio, TX in May 2012. The award is presented every year to the most significant contribution at the annual ILASS-Americas Conference.

The School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech is pleased to announce the selection of three AE graduate students as 2013 Vertical Flight Foundation Fellows. Joachim Hodara (L), Rajiv Shenoy (Ctr) and Michael Mayo (R). 

All received stipends and will be recognized at the American Helicopter Society (AHS) International Forum banquet in May.

Dean Gary May announced on Friday, April 26 that the inaugural DCL Faculty Fellowship has been awarded to Prof. Wassim Haddad.  The award citation reads: "In recognition of outstanding scholarly research contributions in dynamical systems and control by a Decision and Control Lab (DCL) faculty member at Georgia Tech."

AE's "Maximum Capacitance" team took first place and a monetary award in the Capstone Design Expo Aerospace category. Team members are: Addison Hern, Michael Hodgson, Michael Steinfeld, Bobby Barrett, Parker Vascik, Ben Bitoun, Stephen Fialko, Jeff Brenna and David Diaz.  Faculty mentors are Neil Weston and Carl Johnson.

Prof. Jeff Jagoda received the Most Valuable Professor Award from the AE Senior class at the Sigma Gamma Tau Banquet held on April 24 at the Georgia Tech Student Success Center. Professor Jagoda is Associate Chair for Graduate Programs and Research in AE; his research area is in Propulsion and Combustion.  Prof. Jagoda is known for his tireless efforts on behalf of AE students.  A line at his door is a frequent sight in AE.
