The Aerothermodynamics Research &
Technology
Lab was established in Sepember 1993 under
the direction of Professor Stephen M. Ruffin
. Researchers at ARTLab
develop and utilize Computational Fluid Dynamics tools to conduct research
in the following areas -
- High Speed Aerodynamics/Aerothermodynamics.
-
Rotary Wing Aerodynamics - under the aegis of the
Rotorcraft Center of Excellence (RCOE)
at Georgia Tech.
- Reacting Flows.
- Propulsion/Airframe Integration.
- Concept evaluation techniques utilizing Multidiciplinary Design Optimization
(MDO) techniques.
- Prediction of energy transfer processes in chemically and
vibrationally excited flows.
Current research is focussed on :
Other research includes :
- Investigation of the effect of Surface Catalysis on Hypersonic Heat Transfer.
- Chemically reacting and mixing jet flows.
- Hypersonic / Scramjet inlet flows.
- Vibrational relaxation in cooling/expanding flows and in arcjet thrusters.

Researchers at ARTLab have access to computing time at the NSF Supercomputing
Centers, the Super/Parallel Computers of the
Georgia Tech High
Performance Computing Consortium (SGI Origin 2000, IBM RS/6000, CRAY YMP Systems).
Onsite computational work and flowfield visualisation is conducted primarily on
Silicon Graphics Workstations and Power Macintoshes.
ARTLab is located in Rm. 362 of the Guggenheim Building on the Georgia Tech
Campus. Please address all business queries/mail to Prof. Ruffin at -
