Biography
Dr. Mavris is a pioneer in the area of Robust Design and Design for Affordability for aerospace systems. He is responsible for teaching several design courses including Life Cycle Cost (AE 4353) and Aerospace Systems Design I, II (AE 6351,6352). Dr. Mavris is responsible for the research of 35 graduate students working in a variety of sponsored research funded by NASA, DoD, and industry. Dr. Mavris advised two winning teams in the AIAA Undergraduate Propulsion Design Competition (1995 and 1997) as well as to a student who was runner-up in he 1996 AIAA Individual Design Competition. He has spent three research sabbaticals over the past 5 years at NASA (2 times at NASA Ames Research Center and once at NASA Langley Research Center). Dr. Mavris is a senior member of AIAA as well as a member of their Aircraft Design and Air Transportation technical committees. In addition, he serves as editor of the Journal of Parametrics and he is a member of AHS, SAE, ASME, ASQC, SAWE, and SCEA.
