Final Exams in Aerospace Engineering
Introduction
The information on this page contains the guidlines used in AE to meet final exam requirements.Guidelines
There has been a lot of confusion concerning how final exams are handled for graduating seniors (more accurately, degree candidates, since (this includes anyone who will receive a degree at the end of the term). In the past, degree candidates have been exempt from regularly scheduled final exams because their final grades are due at the Registrar's Office on the last day of the week before the exam period. Starting in Fall 2001, grades for everyone are due at the end of the final exam week and there is no exemption from final exams for degree candidates. Also, the Registrar has specifically stated that no final exams can be given before the start of Finals Week. The following notes describe AE's guidelines to meet these requirements.
- Final exam schedules are published each semester by the Registrar's Office. A copy of the schedule is available on OSCAR.
- Starting with the Fall Semester 2001, ALL students will take final exams scheduled during the final exam period at the end of the semester (Finals Week). Note that some special AE courses, such as the undergraduate labs, do not schedule final exams. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that you understand the final exam requirements and schedule for each of the courses you are taking. (Always assume a final exam will be given at the normally scheduled time unless told otherwise by the course instructor.)
- Final exams cannot be given before the start of Finals Week.
- Grades for degree candidates will be submitted along with all other grades at the end of Finals Week (the deadline is usually at 9AM on the following Monday). As a result, all degree candidates must make sure that all coursework has been completed prior to this absolute deadline (allowing sufficient time for the instructor to complete grading, if necessary). Normally, degree candidates should make this fact known to the course instructor well in advance of the end of the semester in order to avoid last minute schedule problems (instructors each receive lists of degree candidates in their classes several weeks prior to the deadline).
- Students are not required to take more than 2 final exams on any day. If 3 exams are scheduled or if a conflict occurs, the student can request a "makeup" exam. Normally, this will be arranged at a time convenient to the instructor and the student, but it could be during the designated conflict period (usually the Saturday after Finals Week). When a conflict or 3 exams on one day occurs, it is the responsibility of the instructor for the course with the lower number to schedule a makeup exam.
